After spending my childhood dressed up as pirates, angels or whatever had taken my fancy at the time (Not to mention running through botanical gardens wearing flowing frocks during the sunny summer mounths, as I rather fancied myself as the romantic heroine or damsel in distress!), when I should have been practicing my lines for the annual outdoor productions, produced by the Action Transport Theatre. Even now I still parade around in fancy dress or high fantasy costume from time to time. Although I usually wait untill the annual LARP events of Curious Pastimes. It lead me inevitably but creatively towards the ever winding path of a theatre deisgner...
After receiving the "Painters, Glaziers, Embroiders & Stationers Award" from Freeman & Guilds of the City of Chester, for higher than average Standard of Proficiency in the Diploma in Art foundation and also gaining a Distinction in Art Foundation at the West Cheshire Collage, I was offered a place to study a BA (Hons) in Theatre, Performance Design and Technology at Liverpool institute For Performing Arts (LIPA). I graduated in the summer of 2006. So here I am. What a full and exciting three years they were! I love it all. Challenging spaces to create a visual world, by set, scenic painting or luxurious fabrics, colour and texture galore! But costume is my true love! If you say you don't like dressing up, I don't believe you!
I filled my spare time working with youth theatres and have a special love for design within theatre in education... I find it so rewarding watching children's faces light up whether it be because of a set that folds out unto itself or a fantastical costume waiting to be worn with adoration... Mind you, it's just as fun seeing the excitement beam acoss the grown up's faces too, as there is still a child in every adult waiting to burst out!
On a serious note, I divide my time between costume (and set, but I do specialise in costume) designing and making for; Theatre, Youth Theatre, Live Role Play and one off pieces. That said, set design and scenic painting is also an interest I would very much like to take further. I love a challange and work well in a team! Please enjoy, if you do then look again soon as many more things will be added and updated.
